How Nerds Collective Doubled Their Top 10 Keyword Rankings in 6 Months

How Nerds Collective Doubled Their Top 10 Keyword Rankings in 6 Months

Client: Nerds Collective, a youth-focused marketing and creative business.
Service: SEO strategy, on-page and technical improvements, keyword mapping and authority work.
Historical reporting window: approximately six months.

Pearl Lemon-reported outcome: our original case narrative describes an increase from five to eleven tracked Top-3 keyword rankings (six additional terms, equivalent to 120% growth in the count) and approximately 111% more tracked Top-10 keyword positions. These are historical company-reported search-visibility figures, not an independently audited statement of traffic, sales or revenue. The original keyword list, precise baseline dates and geographic filters are not included here.

What this case illustrates: how a search strategy for a specialist creative agency can combine intent-led page optimization, technical fixes and ongoing monitoring. How we interpret case-study evidence.

The Business Problem: Search Visibility for a Youth-Marketing Agency

Nerds Collective needed buyers searching for youth culture, Gen Z and creative marketing to find a specialist agency rather than default to a large generalist. That meant mapping service intent to the right pages and measuring search visibility beyond brand-name searches.

Pearl Lemon worked on keyword mapping, on-page SEO, technical foundations, content planning and authority development. The preserved 15 March–14 April 2022 client ranking report shows “youth marketing agency” moving from position 44 to 10 and “youth marketing agency London” from 19 to 8 within that tracking period. The wider historical six-month account reports tracked Top-3 terms growing 5 to 11 and Top-10 terms 17 to 36.

Those are different reporting snapshots and should not be combined into a single traffic or leads total. Importantly, a later 2022 analytics comparison also showed weaker organic sessions despite wider keyword coverage. The practical lesson: grow rankings, then keep improving search intent, CTR and the path to enquiry.

Introduction Marketing Agency SEO Success
nerds collective overview

The Client: Nerds Collective Overview

Nerds Collective is a leading youth-focused marketing agency, working with brands targeting Gen Z and emerging culture trends.

To grow their agency pipeline, Nerds needed:

  • Stronger Google rankings
  • More targeted traffic
  • Keyword dominance for high-intent terms related to youth marketing

They partnered with Pearl Lemon to turn SEO into a consistent source of organic leads.

The SEO Challenge: Boosting Rankings & Inquiries

The initial visibility challenge was concentrated on non-branded category searches. A buyer might look for “youth marketing agency”, “creative marketing agency London” or “Gen Z marketing agency”, but the relevance and competitiveness of those searches varies.

Our original campaign keyword tracker shows specific movement: 44 to 10 for “youth marketing agency” and 19 to 8 for “youth marketing agency London” in the March–April 2022 report. Several proposed phrases remained outside the tracked top 100 at the same snapshot.

That is why the strategy focused on improving the pages that could answer a real buyer brief rather than trying to rank for every marketing-related topic. The ranking improvements are retained in the detailed results section below.

Historical keyword position snapshot, as recorded in Pearl Lemon’s original case narrative:

Ranking bandStarting countReported six-month countChange
Top 3511+6 (+120%)
Top 101736+19 (+111%, rounded)

Interpretation: these are changes in the number of tracked keywords meeting a rank threshold. They are not the percentage growth of organic traffic, enquiries or revenue. The old tracking export, exact dates and keyword list are not included in this public case, so the numbers are company-reported historical figures, not independently audited metrics.

Our evidence guide explains the difference between rankings, clicks and commercial outcomes.

Results in 6 Months: Doubling Visibility

The historical account reports improved visibility across tracked youth-marketing search topics after a programme combining keyword mapping, content optimisation, on-page improvements and links. The ranking counts above describe what Pearl Lemon recorded during the six-month period.

Commercial qualification: the original case also recounts higher inbound interest and a better fit of enquiries. Those comments reflect the historical client/agency working relationship; the number of new customers, sales-qualified enquiries and attributable revenue has not been independently quantified here. We therefore separate ranking improvement from any claimed pipeline or revenue effect.

For buyers, an appropriate plan defines the keyword set and reporting period first, then connects rankings to Search Console clicks and CRM-qualified outcomes where that data exists.

Why It Worked Data, Links & Consistency

Why It Worked: Data, Links & Consistency

The success of the Nerds Collective campaign came from:

  •  Keyword Mapping-We identified search terms aligned with commercial intent and youth marketing themes.
  • Technical Fixes-Core Web Vitals, internal linking, crawlability improvements, metadata restructuring.
  •  Content Expansion-Supporting pages, blog strategy, and relevance-driven content clusters.

Strategic link-building from reputable marketing and business outlets.

  • The historical project narrative describes ongoing tracking of ranking changes and strategy adjustments during the campaign.
  • Measurement should account for starting keyword counts, selected markets, search intent and the review window. A consistent process is useful, but neither rankings nor enquiries can be promised for a future client.

Outro: Lead Generation via SEO

The Nerds Collective case describes an improvement in tracked keyword visibility over an approximately six-month historical engagement. The original project account also reports increased inbound interest, but does not provide a reconciled count of qualified enquiries or attributable sales. We distinguish those measures deliberately: more Top-3 or Top-10 rankings is encouraging visibility evidence, not proof that enquiries or revenue rose by the same percentage.
