With the competitive nature of content marketing, it is vital that companies adopt the best content marketing practices.
Ideally, the content will be SEO-driven, to create new leads and organically increase their web traffic. ?
In this post, I am going to list off some of the content marketing best practises. This will ensure that your content marketing delivers a return on your investment.
So without further ado, let’s jump straight in:
Write content that targets your audience
You want to speak directly to your readers.?
Create an accurate profile/persona of your target audience and tailor your content to provide them with exactly what they are looking for.
This will help to rank your content more highly on Google.
Afterall, it is Google’s mission “to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”
Most people have a strong presence on social media platforms.
Sharing your content on the platforms that are used by your target audience will help you to earn you more clicks and views.
Just be sure to optimise your posts according to the platform you are using. For example, if you are using Twitter, be sure to use hashtags to extend the reach of your posts.
You can also use social media to promote older posts that have started to decline in performance.
This involves putting a link to your content in places where people are most likely to find it.
I would recommend using famous websites that have a large following or influencers who can share a video about your brand, using their social networks.
- Create long-form content isn’t a secret that long-form content performs much better than a shorter content of say 500 words.
Therefore, long-form content MUST be included in your content marketing strategy.
Long-form content must be structured clearly using headings and subheadings and must be a minimum of 2000 words.
A benefit of creating long-form content is that it allows you to provide your users with an in-depth explanation of a topic, and provide them with a lot of value.
When you are able to create long-form content that is of high-quality, you will, in turn, build up your reputation as a thought-leader or influencer in your industry.
- Build repurposing into your content marketing strategy
Repurposing content essentially involves recycling old content into a new format.
For example, you could repurpose your long-form content into an infographic by picking out the key facts and figures and presenting it visually.
Repurposing content is a really good way to reach a new audience. Optimise your content for SEO ?
Make sure that all the content that you produce is optimised to be useful for your readers, and optimised for search engines.
Tip: for your blog posts, if you use WordPress, I’d definitely recommend using Yoast SEO. This will provide you with a checklist of things to do to make sure that each page is optimised.
