Essentially the goal is to build an SEO-driven content marketing process that ACTUALLY results in more organic traffic to your site. Ultimately this will lead to more conversions. ?
The actual content marketing process that you end up taking will depend on a number of factors.
However, In this post, I’ll take you through a beginner friendly content marketing process. ?
So without further ado, let’s get started!
#1: Fully understand what content marketing is ?
According to the Content Marketing Institute, content marketing is:
“a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly-defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action”.
The content you create needs to be:
- Created with the target audience in mind
- Optimised for search engines
- Well structured
#2: Identify your target audience ?
In order to create content that is tailored to your audience and to be able to produce content that uses natural language to resonate and engage with your audience, you’ll first need to create a profile of your target audience.
This will involve identifying their:
- Demographics including age, gender, education, occupation, marital status, income etc
- Psychographics including social class, personality, lifestyle, behaviour, attitudes etc
#3: Create an SEO-driven content marketing strategy
Your content marketing strategy will heavily depend on the needs of your target audience.
However, whatever strategy works for you, you’ll still need to ensure that it is driven by SEO.
For that, I’d recommend making sure that your SEO knowledge is up to par by taking this SEO video course. There is a section in this course that is specifically for building a content-driven SEO strategy.
Also, it is worth reading the SEO best practices guide that was put together by Google to make sure that you are aware of the SEO practices to AVOID in order to prevent getting penalised or de-indexed.
#4: Idea generation ?
Once you have a solid strategy to follow the next step is to brainstorm some content ideas.
In this stage, it is vital that you incorporate all of the information that you identified in the target audience profile and carefully think about their pain points. Once you have identified pain points, figure out how your content can provide solutions to these.
Also, in this step of the content marketing process, it is worth considering the different types of content you could produce.
Be creative in this stage, as you’ll need your content to stand out.
Tip: consider creating more uncommon forms of content to help you to stand out.
You may want to consider the following types of content:
- Long-form content – 2000+ words
- User-generated content
#5: content production ?
Now that you have created the SEO driven content strategy, identified the pain points and traits of your target audience, and come up with some solutions, and have considered a broad range of content that will stand out, it’s time to start producing the content.
Before doing so, I’d recommend taking some time to brush up on your copywriting skills
If you don’t have the resources to be able to create the content yourself you could always consider hiring a copywriter.
Once you have created content, it is vital that you proofread and review it.
You’ll need to assess how well the content is performing to see if it is in line with your digital growth goals.
If it is not, you might want to consider hiring an SEO agency to conduct an SEO audit of your site.
